Up Close and Personal: Olympic Gold for Joyce Jones!

Updated: Aug 19

At Northaven Senior Living, we are constantly inspired by the incredible lives and accomplishments of our residents. Today, we celebrate one of our brightest stars — Joyce Jones (#424) — who just brought home Gold and Silver medals from the National Senior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa.

At 95 years young, Joyce continues to set records and prove that age is just a number. Competing in the 85+ bracket (because there are no other 95-year-olds!), she captured Gold in Pickleball Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, along with Silver in the 50m and 100m Track & Field events.

Joyce’s love of sports began early, though opportunities for girls were limited at the time. That didn’t stop her — she played boys’ sports instead and often beat them! At 15, she met her future husband on the badminton court. She never did beat him in their 70 years of marriage, but together they built a life filled with love, play, and healthy competition.

Her lifetime of dedication has earned her a place in the Huntsman World Senior Games Hall of Fame and the Badminton Hall of Fame. This October, she’ll also be featured in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest competitive tournament pickleball player in the world. And she isn’t done yet — she’s already preparing for her 19th entry into the Huntsman World Senior Games this fall in Utah.

Joyce is more than a competitor — she is a role model, a friend, and a reminder that it’s never too late to chase your passions. Her energy and determination inspire not only the Northaven community but everyone who hears her story.

Congratulations, Joyce, on your incredible achievements. We couldn’t be prouder to call you part of the Northaven family!
