Stay Engaged with Current Events with Jacob!

Updated: Mar 18

At Northaven, lifelong learning and meaningful conversation are an important part of community life, and current events with Jacob offers a thoughtful opportunity to stay informed, ask questions, and engage with the world around them.

Held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 1:15 PM in the Harbor Room, these gatherings feature analysis and discussion of the stories shaping headlines across the globe. Topics often include foreign policy, U.S. politics, elections around the world, global conflicts, and other major international developments, creating space for residents to explore complex issues in an approachable and engaging way.

Jacob brings both knowledge and perspective to these sessions. He holds a master’s degree in international relations and a bachelor’s degree in American political science, and he thoughtfully curates each discussion to reflect the most important issues unfolding in real time. On the 1st Tuesday of each month, Jacob develops the session topics based on current events, giving participants a timely look at the stories and developments shaping our world.

On the 3rd Tuesday of each month, the group will focus on special video topics over the coming months, including:

  • March 17 — Tariffs

  • April 21 — U.S. and China

  • June 16 — Ukraine and Russia

  • July 21 — International Organizations

  • August 18 — U.S. and Africa

  • September 15 — International Law and World Order

These sessions are a wonderful opportunity for residents to dig deeper into the issues behind the headlines, hear different perspectives, and take part in lively, respectful conversation. Whether you enjoy sharing your thoughts, asking questions, or simply listening and learning, there is a place for you in the discussion.

Programs like this reflect Northaven’s commitment to creating a vibrant community where curiosity, connection, and continued learning are celebrated. Current Events with Jacob is more than a discussion group — it is a chance to stay engaged with the wider world while connecting with neighbors over ideas that matter.

Come join the discussion or simply sit back and learn from Jacob and fellow residents.
