Celebrating David Kaynor: Ten Years of Learning at Northaven

Join us August 24 for David’s final Northaven lecture — and a special retirement celebration honoring a decade of shared knowledge. In his own words, he's been helping people to understand the world around them.
For ten years, David Kaynor has been a familiar and much-appreciated presence at Northaven, sharing his knowledge, curiosity, and love of the natural world through his regular lectures.
Now, after an incredible 240 lectures, David is retiring at the end of August.
"One man brought lectures on the PNW, its art, lighthouses, bridges, forts,
gardens; museums all over the country; birds—a definite favorite of his; mammals,
meteorology, astronomy, paleontology, geology and even a travel log on his trip to the Arctic Circle! Literally, something for everyone and it amazed me how some of the hidden folks in our community would be drawn out for one of these topics. David will be irreplaceable!" Ginger Blake
While we are certainly sorry to see his lecture series come to an end, we are also very happy for David as he begins a new chapter — one that, fittingly, will give him much more time to enjoy nature himself.
David’s final Northaven lecture, “Global Warming 2025,” will take place on Monday, August 24 at 1:30 p.m. We hope residents who have enjoyed his programs over the years will join us not only for the lecture, but also for a small retirement celebration afterward.
To honor David’s many years of generously sharing his time and expertise with our community, we are collecting donations for a restaurant gift card for David and his wife. Ginger has also created special note cards featuring her bird photography, giving residents a chance to write David a personal message. If you haven’t picked one up yet, please stop by to add your congratulations and good wishes.
Following the lecture, we’ll gather for cake and a chance to thank David for ten wonderful years of learning, conversation, and connection at Northaven.
