Ballard Sedentary Sousa Band Brings the Parade to Northaven

Rousing music, colorful uniforms, seated baton-twirling, and plenty of audience participation made for a memorable summer afternoon.
The Ballard Sedentary Sousa Band brought its own party to Northaven, filling the East Garden with music, laughter, and all the fun of a parade—without any marching required!
Known as Seattle’s own non-marching marching band, the spirited 30(ish)-piece brass and wind ensemble performed some of the greatest hits of traditional band music, including rousing classics by John Philip Sousa, Henry Fillmore, and more.
The musicians arrived wearing a wonderfully colorful assortment of band uniforms collected from across the United States, giving the performance the festive feeling of a grand parade gathered in one place.
One of the afternoon’s biggest highlights was the Sedentary Majorette, who took her place at the front of the band and demonstrated some stunning feats of seated baton-twirling. She also led residents through their own seated majorette dance routine, with plenty of enthusiastic participation from the audience.
By 3:00 p.m., most of the East Garden was comfortably shaded, creating a pleasant setting for the outdoor concert. Hot dogs, chips, and popsicles completed the afternoon and added to the relaxed picnic atmosphere.
It was a joyful celebration of music, movement, humor, and community. Thank you to the Ballard Sedentary Sousa Band for bringing such a colorful and wonderfully entertaining performance to Northaven!
