Medicare Open Enrollment: Important Updates for 2026A Message from Northaven Social Worker, Shari.

ree

Hello everyone, it’s that time of year again — Medicare Open Enrollment runs from October 15 to December 7, and this year’s changes are especially significant. I’m encouraging everyone to take time to review your current plan and see if it’s still the best fit for you in 2026.

To help, Jennifer Stowe Sprague, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker, will return to Northaven on October 23 from 10:00–10:30 a.m. in the Harbor Room. She’ll share details about specific plan changes and cuts coming in 2026, and she’ll also offer one-on-one appointments that same day. To schedule, please call her directly—there’s a clipboard in the lobby with a “Take One” sheet listing her contact information and what to bring to your meeting.

As you consider your options, focus on two key questions:

● How much will my plan cost in 2026?

● Will it still provide the coverage I need?

While Medicare’s core medical services remain unchanged, insurance companies can (and do) adjust doctor networks, prescription coverage, co-pays, out-of-pocket limits, and pharmacy partnerships. Many Medicare Advantage plans are also scaling back extras like vision and dental coverage or debit cards for food and over-the-counter items.

Taking time to review your plan now can help you avoid surprises later—and ensure you have the coverage and care you rely on. If you have any questions or need help navigating these updates, please reach out. I’m happy to assist and make sure you have the information you need.

Other Helpful Resources

If you can’t attend the session, here are three reliable ways to get help comparing plans and finding accurate information:

  1. Medicare Plan Finder Tool – Visit www.medicare.gov and click Find Health and Drug Plans. After creating an account, you can enter your zip code, medications, and preferred providers to compare plans and see 2026 premiums. If you enroll online, Medicare will automatically disenroll you from your old plan on January 1, 2026.

  2. Licensed Insurance Brokers – Many Northaven residents recommend:

Jennifer Stowe Sprague – 206-643-8466 (in-person Oct. 23, by appointment)

Peggy Ford – 425-647-3173

Heather Ford – 206-604-7050

Lorna Lunsford – 206-218-9363

Marika (The Assurance Group) – 425-951-0524

David Washington – 206-450-9972

Brokers can help you compare and enroll but may not represent every plan. Always ask which plans they work with before choosing.

  1. SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) – A free, unbiased resource staffed by trained volunteers. They can help you review your current plan, compare options, and check if you qualify for financial assistance. Contact SHIBA via Solid Ground at 206-753-4806 or shiba@solid-ground.org

Medicare Part B Premiums

Medicare Part B premiums are projected to increase from $185/month (2025) to $206.50/month (2026). If your gross monthly income is under $1,820 for individuals or $2,453 for couples, you may qualify for the Medicare Savings Program, which can help pay part or all of your premium. Applications are available in my office or online at washingtonconnection.org

Taking time to review your plan now can save you money and prevent surprises later. If you need help or have questions, please reach out—I’m happy to assist.

Warmly,

Shari
